Environmental Accident Threats

A new edition of our weekly monitoring of dangerous shadow fleet tanker voyages

Several sanctioned tankers have been recorded in various regions, the movement of which has created a threat of environmental disaster.

The sanctioned tanker INVICTA, IMO 9250543, flagged to Cameroon, is drifting in the Mediterranean Sea.

The sanctioned tanker TEMIRO, IMO 9209972, is drifting in the Red Sea under the flag of Cameroon.

The sanctioned tanker BLUEBELL, IMO 9251810, flagged to Equatorial Guinea, is sailing in the Indian Ocean, heading for the Cape of Good Hope.

A Russian sanctioned tanker ASTORIA, IMO 9166314, is drifting in the Pacific Ocean.

The sanctioned tanker CHIOS, IMO 9231509, flagged Cameroon, is sailing in the Mediterranean Sea, heading towards Gibraltar.

The sanctioned tanker AILANA, IMO 9232888, flagged Sierra Leone, is sailing in the Bay of Biscay, bound for Gibraltar.

All of these tankers are very old (built in 1999-2004) and operate without insurance. They often turn off their navigation systems to avoid detection by law enforcement agencies. There is a risk of oil spills.
