A supertanker carrying crude oil off Oman has reported an explosion.
The tanker, identified in a report by the Joint Maritime Information Centre as the Olympic Life, was 60 nautical miles east of Oman in the Arabian Sea.
The vessel’s AIS signal shows it moving away from Oman after stating it was heading from its anchorage in Malacca and awaiting orders.
The vessel, built in 2019, is Greek-owned and registered in the Marshall Islands.
The vessel’s master reported an “external explosion” above the port waterline to UK Maritime Trade Operations. The report noted damage to the vessel but no injuries to the crew. However, some bunker fuel was spilled into the water.
