On the morning of May 31, the French Navy detained the oil tanker Tagor, which is under international sanctions, French President Emmanuel Macron announced. He noted that the vessel was en route from Russia and was being used to finance the war against Ukraine.
According to VesselFinder data, the Tagor was en route from Murmansk to an unspecified port in the Baltic Sea in late May, passing near the west coast of Norway. The vessel was detained 400 nautical miles (approximately 740 km) west of Brittany in northwestern France, according to the French Maritime Prefecture for the Atlantic Region.
«After the inspection team boarded the vessel, a review of the documents confirmed suspicions of flag violations,» the agency noted. French Navy ships are currently escorting the vessel to its anchorage for further inspection, the Maritime Prefecture concluded. This is the third tanker belonging to Russia’s shadow fleet that France has intercepted since the beginning of the year.
