Experts from the European Shipowners’ Association express serious concern over the active use of old fuel brands by Russian tankers. In particular, we are talking about the active burning of fuel oil and low-quality fuel brands, which have sharply increased in the past year by tankers of Russian oil companies.
Representatives of the association emphasize that the use of such fuel is extremely harmful to the maritime space of European countries. Its burning leads to a strong emission of greenhouse gases. Also, as a result of the burning of tankers, soot is emitted, which significantly harms the water space.
The association calls for increased inspections of Russian oil ships, in particular at the ports they visit during their passage, as well as increasing the frequency of inspections of the technical condition of ships on the high seas. In case of non-compliance, such ships should be detained up to and including arrest.
