Dutch climate activists, who caused hundreds of thousands of euros in financial losses to rail freight companies last year, are back. After what seemed like a winter break, protesters gathered again at the Rotterdam harbor railway last weekend.
The activists, who operate under the name “Geef Tegengas”, initially blocked the harbor railway at around 10:50 on Saturday morning. Their protest lasted for about two and a half hours, after which police removed two dozen people from the tracks.
They are actively protesting against the activities of the Russian shadow fleet, which they say may use Dutch ports for technical stops. The activists claim that the activities of Russian tankers cause enormous damage to the environment. They are calling for tougher sanctions and a ban on Russian ships from entering EU ports.
