In the French port cities of Le Havre and Calais, environmentalists protested against the constant passage of shadow fleet tankers through French territorial waters. Hundreds of participants went to the ports with posters and slogans «No to pollution of the planet», «We are against fossil fuels», «Down with blood money».
The participants tried to block the port areas, but after a dialogue with the administration and police, a peaceful nature of the action was agreed upon
The activists stated that according to their data, the number of accidents of shadow fleet ships has increased. Since these ships are very old, they move without insurance, therefore they harm the environment.
Environmentalists emphasized the need to step up the fight against ships under sanctions. as well as against those tankers that are not yet under sanctions, but are actively transporting oil and gas from Russian ports. They demand increased inspections on the high seas and a strengthening of European sanctions policy.
