A number of Portuguese port cities held protests by environmentalists who opposed the mass voyages of the Russian shadow fleet in the Atlantic Ocean along the coast of Portugal. Several dozen demonstrators came out with posters «We are against bloody oil», «We are against fossil fuels», «No to pollution of the planet»
The participants of the action explained that they were against Russian tankers transporting oil and petroleum products across the Atlantic Ocean. In their opinion, this contributes to an increase in the consumption of fossil fuels, and the money received from the sale is directed to financing international terrorism and wars. Also, the old age of shadow tankers leads to pollution of the coast of Portugal.
As evidence of this, researchers who were present at the action provided data from the results of analysis of samples from coastal waters. They showed an increased content of petroleum products precisely after the passage of ships that are included in the sanctions lists precisely for transporting Russian oil.
The participants made a strong demand — to strengthen the fight against tankers of the shadow fleet, in particular by arresting tankers, as well as by prohibiting the provision of any services in the ports of the European Union.
