Environmental Accident Threats

A new edition of our weekly monitoring of dangerous shadow fleet tanker voyages

Several sanctioned tankers have been recorded in various regions, the movement of which has created a threat of environmental disaster.

The sanctioned tanker MIKATI, IMO 9250892, flagged Sierra Leone, has entered the English Channel.

The sanctioned tanker BIVOLA, IMO 9266865, flagged Sierra Leone, has entered the Sunda Strait.

The sanctioned tanker ZAMBRA, IMO 9175078, flagged Cameroon, has entered the Mediterranean Sea.

A sanctioned Russian tanker NORDSTRAUM, IMO 9036284, is operating in the North Sea.

The sanctioned tanker RANGLER, IMO 9206671, is sailing in the Arabian Sea under the flag of Cameroon.

The sanctioned tanker MITZEL, IMO 9233741, flagged Equatorial Guinea, is sailing in the Atlantic Ocean towards the Cape of Good Hope.

The sanctioned tanker JORDAN, IMO 9222443, flagged East Timor, is drifting off the coast of Ghana.

All of these tankers are very old (built in 1992-2004) and operate without insurance. They often turn off their navigation systems to avoid detection by law enforcement agencies. There is a risk of oil spills.
