Activists from Swedish environmental organizations blocked a tanker carrying Russian oil on Monday by tying themselves to the ship in protest against Russia’s war in Ukraine. They swam up to the ship in red rubber boats and tried to block its movement
The leaders of the action said that the red color was chosen for a reason. It symbolizes that oil is killing the planet, and the money from its sale is killing Ukraine. Therefore, it must be stopped at all costs
The group called on the European Commission to ban imports of Russian fossil fuels and said that European companies should terminate any contracts for such imports from Russia after its invasion of Ukraine. Activists also demand an intensified fight against tankers of the Russian shadow fleet, in particular, the cessation of services in EU ports and the detention of oil ships carrying Russian oil.
