Its combustion has a strong negative effect on the climate and the environment. Firstly, it is the emission of greenhouse gases. Secondly, it is the emission of soot — solid black particles. When they settle on the ice surface, they darken it, which leads to greater absorption of sunlight, which intensifies melting and, accordingly, accelerates climate change.
