The Libyan authorities have begun an operation to transport the Russian tanker Arctic Metagaz, which had been drifting in the Mediterranean Sea for three weeks. The vessel, belonging to the Russian Federation’s shadow fleet, was damaged in a suspected sea drone attack. For a long time, the unguided ship posed a serious threat to maritime safety and the environment in the region.

Representatives of the Libyan Coast Guard reported that the tanker carrying a cargo of liquefied gas is currently being towed to a safe area near the city of Zuwara on the western coast. This step will help prevent a possible spill and stabilize the situation in the Mediterranean. Currently, specialists are assessing the technical condition of the vessel to make further decisions.
